Effingham County Animal Shelter need everyone support

Posted June 5, 2011

All shelters are shelters, right? Wrong!!!! They all house animals but it is whats inside that makes them so much different. It is the people that care, the veterinarians that help, the volunteers that do their part, the organizations on the outside that take part and the animal control officers that truly care about the animals. This is what makes the difference between shelters.

Effingham County Animal Shelter in Springfield, GA is one of the special shelters that DO care. They try their best to get the dogs and cats homes before they have to resort to putting them down. Animals that come in could be there for a week or even months, it just depends on the animal, space and what is being brought it.

They try to teach about the importance of spaying and neutering, as with spaying and neutering they would not have the need for a shelter except to pick up strays until their owner claimed them.

Now I am very partial to this shelter as I personally volunteer there every Friday to assess the dogs for potential adopters. They have so many great dogs there that are in need of good homes. If on the dogs kennel that they have a kennel sheet with a description of the dog and it's abilities and characteristics then this dog has gone thru a characteristic and behavorial assessment. This is not a behavorial test as some shelters do, I do not set up dogs to fail but succeed and help them to find their potential for their new adopter.

Tail wags.
